Official Site KATAYAMAKE Nohgaku Kyomai Preservation Foundation
The Noh theater of the Kyoto Kanzekai […] was forced to relocate on 15 April 1945, just before the war ended. However, the forefathers’ ardent desire to “perform Noh on our stage” and the efforts of many sympathetic supporters led to the establishment of the Kyoto Kanze Kaikan Noh Theater on 25 March 1958. […]
The stage is made entirely of Hinoki cypress, and master artist Insho Domoto, a prominent figure in Kyoto, painted the aged pine tree on the paneling.
When the painting first debuted, its primarily gold and teal style won praise for its modernism and audaciousness.
After sixty years, the artwork has integrated well with the stage and has gained a fresh vibrancy. Introduction taken from the official website.
